Other than the fact that she is dead, Suzie seems to be doing okay, For the amount of time that she was alive in the book she seemed like a normal 14 year old girl. She had developed a small love interest with a boy from school and even got to experience her first kiss. She goes to school and has a close bond with her family and a very close relationship with her father. Unfortunately, Suzie at 14 her is also sweet and naïve and that is what leads to her murder. When Mr. Harvey, the “misunderstood” neighbour, asks Suzie if she would like to see his “special basement”, Suzie doesn't really want to but feels sorry for him and it does not occur to her that he could be dangerous. Through flashbacks Suzie reveals what terrible things that Mr. Harvey does to her before he kills her.
Although Suzie is the one that has been raped and murdered, her concern is for her family. She watches over them for a year hoping that they will find peace which will bring her peace so she can finally be released from the “inbetween” and finally be “free”.
Although Mr. Harvey was not really a stranger, do you think that children should be taught to be “street smart” without being fearful of everyone ?

I think that children should be more "Street Smart", children should never be going into strangers houses, and not consider the consequences. If he was a neighbour that I know, and can trust than maybe I would. If he was known as the "Misunderstood" neighbour than I would definitely stay back.
ReplyDeleteof course they should why would you want an overly carfull kid or a kid that will get kidnaped for going into a strangers house, ither way its a bad way to live you have to not be afraid yet smart enough not to listen to strangers and there tails about having candy.
ReplyDeleteI feel every kid growing up should be street smart becasue i wasnt growing up. Im very close to home and i know that street smarts is not one of my strengths. Every kid should not fear everyone they meet but meeting someone for the first time in person you should be very catious always. never trust anyone right off the bat when getting to know them. Im not saying put a barrier that blocks the person from getting to really know you but be careful and listen to your spidy senses.
ReplyDeleteParents definitely need to teach their children to trust their instincts and to not talk to strangers. I agree with Alex though, you don't want to raise a child to fear everyone and every unkown situation or else you'd be teaching them never to trust. At the end of it, you've just got to hope that your child has enough instincts and 'street smarts' to get out of any situation they get into.
ReplyDeleteyes I think parent need to help their children understand that even if a person isn't a stranger, dosent mean they're not dangerous. I don't think kids should be fearful of everyone they meet, just cautious.
ReplyDeleteI most definatly think that children should be taught street smarts although its kind of something they have to learn and experience on there own. Its not that children should fear everyone they meet but there is always boundries and i think thats something that should be taught.
ReplyDeleteChildren should be taught street smarts, they shouldnt have to fear everyone they come in contact with. Children would be able to not trust, but atleast be able to more so understand the right kind of people from the wrong. But at the same time children are classified the innocences of the world, so they shouldnt have to fear everyone or be worried about a lot I guess, but that doesnt mean they cant have some sort of street smarts to help them live their lives.
ReplyDeleteI think not only children should be taught street smarts, but everyone too. A lot of older people don't know ALL the dangers of the streets. Knowing your surroundings and trusting your insticts when you think something is wrong can save you.
ReplyDeletei think everyone should be taught street smarts becuase you never know what might happen. it could be a life and death situation and learning alot about the streets could help
